You Can Help Preserve San Antonio History by Attending This Well-Known Festival
Join the City of San Antonio World Heritage Office and its many partners for the 4th Annual World Heritage Festival! The annual neighborhood favorite returns on Wednesday, September 9th.
The World Heritage Festival is an annual collaborative event to celebrate and promote San Antonio Missions, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and raise funds to preserve, promote, and connect. The Festival is a five-day celebration that has something for everyone while providing funding for nonprofit organizations and projects that preserve, maintain, promote, and connect.
The City of San Antonio, Bexar County, San Antonio River Authority, National Park Service, The Alamo, Mission Heritage Partners, and Las Misiones organized the first World Heritage Festival in 2016. The festival occurs after Labor Day weekend and overlaps with the Organization of World Heritage Cities, Solidarity Day of World Heritage Cities that occurs annually on September 8th.
The Organization of the World Heritage Cities was created on this date and urges the administration of each member city to take advantage of this day to stress the important responsibility of the city to protect as well as promote the world heritage and especially the privilege of having a part of that heritage in their city.
The festival will include a long list of activities. Ranging from educational forums to movie screenings and live music events, families may pick and choose which events interest them to create a unique experience.
On September 4th, join the City of San Antonio for a family-friendly festival celebrating our area’s cultural roots! Many events are free, but some require tickets and/or registration. A full list of events and associated prices may be viewed on the festival’s official website, www.worldheritagefestival.org.
